Floods; Need to reenact 2005 earthquake response

06 Aug

Response of society after the 2005 Earthquake is one of the proudest moment for us as the nation. After that, few other moments came where we stood strong, together as society (twice for the judges) but this was Kashmir Earthquake introduced us with the notion of “We can do something”. Those few moments that came afterwards, never came with that same unity and never with that sense of urgency;  During 2005 earthquake calamity was at such a big scale that even when we knew out government can’t do enough we knew no government can do enough. We did not waited for govt. to fail, we just stepped in. Such events require us, the people.

Today again, the calamity has struck our nation and people require our response with same fervor and same urgency that 2005 earthquake required.  16oo people dead and 4 million people affected, that’s

what government of Pakistan is saying, one can easily question these numbers. On the side is a map given by the BBC of the areas that are affected by the flood. The chain of worst affected areas start from the top to the bottom.  I don’t know how they are defining worst and moderately affected areas

but calamity should not be judged on the basis of amount of casualties. We need more funds, more support on the ground.  Sitting far away one can just done two things pray and try to collect funds for relief.

If any of you can share web links of the organizations doing the relief work, I would be really grateful.
